Dominic Gagnon Screens at MoMI’s First Look Festival, Jan 10

The Order Museum of the Moving Image’s annual First Look Festival Purchase  is a space for eye-opening and mind-expanding international cinema, with an emphasis on the avant-garde.

Dominic Gagnon, who screened with UnionDocs in February 2015 Cheap , will be presenting the New York premiere of his latest work  http://dymonpower.ca/?p=34347 Pills Pills Of the North (Canada, 2015, 74 mins.) at the 2016 festival, which runs January 8–24.

Cheap Of_The_North

In Of the North, a provocative mash-up of clips uploaded from Inuit regions, Gagnon mismatches sound and picture, exults in non-sequitur cuts, and confronts viewers with the limits and extremes of self-representation.

The film screens Sunday, January 10th at 4pm with Pieces and Love All to Hell (Canada, 2011, 60 mins.), in which Gagnon collects self-made videos from an all-female cast of American right-wing conspiracy theorists who are as hard to pigeonhole as they are to believe.

First Look 2016 was programmed by MoMI’s Chief Curator David Schwartz and Associate Curator of Film Eric Hynes, with programming partner FIDMarseille and guest programmers Aliza Ma and Mónica Savirón.
