Former UnionDocs Collaborative Fellow Alexandra Lazarowich Wins First Place in Hot Docs and BravoFACT Short Film Pitch Competition

UnionDocs is proud to announce that former Collaborative Fellow (2013-2014), Alex Lazarowich won first place in the Hot Docs and BravoFACT Short Film Pitch Competition for her short film in production, Cree Code Talker. online The film explores the role of Cree code talker Charles ‘Checker Tomkins, who used the Cree language during the Second World War to defeat the enemy.

The Hot Docs and BravoFACT Short Film Pitch Competition gives six Canadian filmmaking teams the chance to pitch their short documentary projects to a live panel of judges and awards at total of $75,000 to the top three finalists. First place winners Alexandra Lazarowich (Cree Code Talker) and Cowboy Smithx (producer of Cree Code Talker) were awarded $30,000 to fund the film.
