Up to five participants in the Summer Documentary Lab will have the option to stay in the UnionDocs residency, an affordable and convenient housing option for international or out of town guests.
322 Union Avenue is a great place to live in one of NYC’s most exciting neighborhoods, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It has a lot of shared resources and a lot of opportunities for fun while also having adequate privacy and a comfort (not always found in NYC communal living). There are three floors, a big second story porch, and a backyard with plants tended by UnionDocs. The location is close to excellent transportation, making most spots in Manhattan and Brooklyn within a short subway ride.
The first floor commercial space is occupied by the screening space where our public events take place. It also houses the UnionDocs office.
The two floors above the main space house our residency which consists of 5 private bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a recently renovated kitchen and dining area, a meeting and work space with a screen, projector, and speakers, and a second UnionDocs staff office. Both levels have wood floors throughout, lots of natural light. The common spaces and bedrooms are fully furnished. Bedrooms can be locked, but common spaces are shared by the five residents. The common spaces are available for meetings, work sessions and screenings for the use of UnionDocs participants and staff. The building also has high-speed internet and a washer and dryer that can be used at no additional charge.
Rooms vary in dimension. Each contains:
- ‘Full Size’ bed and mattress
- 1-2 windows with retractable window coverings
- Compact 3 drawer dresser
- 2 Pillows
- Waste bin
- Closet or garment rack with a set of hangers
- Locking door knob for security
Please note: UnionDocs Summer Documentary Lab participants will be provide with a set of sheets and towels during their five-week residency.
The 2nd Floor has a large 14 foot table for daytime workspace and group conference area. The space also converts into a second screening room when the screen is lowered and full audio visual system is in use.
$300 weekly rent for the Summer Documentary Lab participants all utilities, electricity, heating, gas, water and high speed internet as well as professional cleaning twice monthly.
A deposit of $500 is required at time of contract to be refunded upon moving out by check or bank wire transfer.
This rent is a direct pass through of what UnionDocs pays to lease the apartments plus utilities and other charges. It is a bit lower than market rate for the area, considering the space, location and amenities. Program fees are separate and are, of course, also required for the residency.
UnionDocs is located in East Williamsburg and is in close walking distance (5-6 blocks) of three major subway lines:
L Train – Lorimer station
G Train – Metropolitan station
JMZ Train– Hewes station
For travel by car – we are within minutes of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway.
Take exit 32 toward Metropolitan Ave/Williamsburg Bridge/Manhattan off the BQE.
