Mitra Azar
Collaborative Fellow 2014-2015
Originally from Italy, Mitra is a nomad by nature, roaming for a good while in the Middle East, especially between Istanbul, Tahrir Square, Beirut and Tehran. He is currently a PhD student at TransArt (NY, Berlin, Plymouth), and in addition to exhibiting his work around the Middle East and Europe has published Iran vs Iran, a book+ movie about the 2009 Iranian Green Revolution, due for US release in February 2015. In love with minorities and outcasts, Mitra’s films are usually character-driven and/or politically engaged – street children, prisoners, homeless, uprisings, rituals, crowds and mass events – and are devoted to an aesthetic of crises. As a filmmaker, Mitra has been working for European and international production companies (Express TV in Denmark, Helden Film in Germany, RT Russia), and delivered films for Scandinavian, Italian and German television.
