Mix & Master — BA Parker & Avery Trufelman
With BA Parker, Avery Trufelman & Sayre Quevedo
UnionDocs
352 Onderdonk Ave
Ridgewood, NY
We’re off the charts excited to debut a new audio series of events, Mix & Master, a monthly gathering that celebrates the best of the best in audio storytelling and documentary. Instigated by a dynamic duo we have been inspired by for a long time in the field of audio documentary, Avery Trufelman and Sayre Quevedo. We are teaming up with them to bring audio lovers and practitioners a dedicated and regular space to connect around the craft, celebrate past work, and find inspiration together.
On a given Sunday each month, we will invite a master of the form to share a bit of an inside look at their work and their journey. A dedicated host will guide us through some close listening—zooming in on selects to understand and examine special moments and tactics— with a goal to share new epiphanies and spark thought-provoking conversations. For March, Avery will interview the brilliant BA Parker, the Ambies Award-winning co-host of NPR’s Code Switch, where she tells stories about race, identity, and culture—covering everything from the legacy of racial trauma in horror films to the myth of self-care.
Parker is a powerhouse in audio storytelling. Before joining Code Switch, she was the co-host and lead producer of The Cut podcast with New York Magazine, exploring the intersection of race, pop culture, and personal narratives. Her path in audio began with a production fellowship at This American Life, leading to work with Invisibilia, Heavyweight, and Nancy. She has also guest-hosted NPR’s It’s Been a Minute. We can’t wait to hear more about Parker’s audio journey!
For this series, we are partnering with the incredible folks at Hark Audio, where mixtapes meet podcasts. Our interviewers will handpick some standout moments from across each guest’s body of work and create a custom ‘Harklist’ for you to listen to before the event and familiarize yourself with some of their most impactful output, a kind of warm-up track, helping to surface ideas before the conversation begins.
Our playlist will be available HERE, one week before the event. Peek back for it, and grab your ticket today to add your voice to the mix!
Watch the conversation between Presenter1, Presenter2 and Presenter 3 on the UnionDocs’ Membership hub.
