With Colectivo los Ingrávidos and Almudena Escobar López

When an image is seen it begins to decompose. When a story is told it starts to be a conversation. For Colectivo los Ingrávidos, this gradual disappearance in the process of transmission is a shared space of listening, where poetry becomes an autonomous form of history.

Their poor images and sounds are shifting configurations arranged by intuition and friction: they disintegrate, get downloaded, re edited, separated from the sound, and multiplied, connecting with each other and cracking up visual grammar like an egg. Against the supposed neutrality of documentary images, archival sound recordings reactivate dominant political discourses, reconnecting the old injustices with the present. The interaction between the images dissociates their communal narrative practices, generating a complex and paradoxical relationship that disrupts the sense of discourse, and stimulates the perceptive domain of the viewer.

This program includes a selection of Colectivo los Ingrávidos work, found sound and found footage videos, intertwined with digital pieces, improvised music, 16mm footage digitally reproduced, projected images, newspaper clippings, and footage from public protests. Almudena will be in conversation with a member of the collective to talk visual improvisation, and poetry as tools of historical resistance.

Program

"Visión de Anáhuac"

2018, 1:03

The contemporary vision of the ancient valley of Anáhuac. It has been Integrated to the life of the current city of Mexico.

"CI(s)NE NEGRO"

2016, 14:59

The capture of El Chapo Guzmán through the Operation Black Swan (Cisne Negro) penetrates in the scorched interior of the Mexican Film Archives that burnt on 1982. Clandestine prisons under the streets of Mexico City, layers of hidden black holes, and opaque histories.

"Transmisión / Archivo de Indias"

2014, 6:35

Europeans were fascinated by gold, as a condensed symbol of capital. Rising money from a future trafficked wealth. Massacres will be collateral damages, necessary for the conversion of lost souls, if it was possible to prove theologically that the “Indian” had a soul. People under torture declared that they had gold in large quantities, large enough to finance the construction of the General Archive of the Indies in Seville, that now protects, like every cultural institution, documents of barbarism.

"Batalla"

2017, 4:35

After the ominous attack that the paramilitary and police corporations carried out on September 26, 2014 in Iguala, Guerrero. The student Aldo Gutiérrez Solano remains in coma until today. Battle is a brief homage to the body resistance that fights against power.

"Piedra de Sol"

2017, 8:24

The Sun Quartet is a solar composition in four movements, a political composition in four natural elements, an audiovisual composition in four bodily mutations: a sun stone where youth blooms in protest, a river overflowing the streets, the burning plain rising in the city. And, finally, the clamor of the people that shook Mexico after the night of September 26, 2014. The disappearance of 43 students from Ayotzinapa opened a breach in the Mexican political body.

"Paralaje"

2019, 5:00

A political composition on natural resistance. These images are an expiring breath in danger of extinction. These images become extinguished, consumed: a drop, a pure intensity which only appears when falling. In the presence of the image these audiovisual crowds become an affected body, assaulted by entropy. A face exhausted and reanimated by the continuous sound trance that traverses the battlefield. Faces for an eye that would not need to be seen.

"Altares"

2019, 3:28

ALTARES is an audiovisual shrine composed of small temples that contain images of ancient deities.

"Coyolxauhqui"

2017, 9:46

COYOLXAUHQUI recasts the mythical dismemberment of the Aztec Moon goddess Coyolxauhqui by her brother Huitzilopochtli, the deity of war, the Sun and human sacrifice. The film is a poem of perception, one that unveils how contemporary Mexican femicide is linked to a patriarchal history with roots in deeper cultural constructs.

"Pandora"

2020, 7:01 min

Pandora is who communicates to the human world the powers of the night. These are glimpses of her visions.

2017, 6:43

A woman raises her voice and gives a painful and endless speech that with time becomes even more overwhelming, because her words are heartbreaking and permanent impressions in the collective memory, stabbing with words an old Mexican film, a celluloid that tears apart until its disappearance.

"Soldadera / Percusión Visual"

2013, 5:50

A woman of the Mexican Revolution. An armed militant who puts us in touch with the pulse of the field, a waterfall of colors and gaits, in the footsteps of a woman who vindicates her struggle that never ceases to exist.
