Dear Friends,

We are happy to announce that the 51st Festival dei Popoli – International Documentary Film Festival – will take place from the 13th to 20th of November 2010 in Florence (Italy).

Submission of films for pre-selection is free. Our new regulation is available on www.festivaldeipopoli.org.
The submission procedure of one or more films may be run through the online registration on our website (www.festivaldeipopoli.org).

THE FIRST DEADLINE IS APPROACHING… DON’T MISS IT!

The deadlines for entries are:
– June 15th 2010 for films produced before April 30th 2010;
– August 2nd 2010 for films either produced after April 30th 2010 or still in production.

The Festival includes the following sections: Official Selection, Italian Panorama, tributes/retrospectives, seminars, panel discussions, special events.

THE OFFICIAL SELECTION

DOCUMENTARIES OF ALL NATIONALITIES WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR SELECTION ONLY IF COMPLETED AFTER OCTOBER 1st 2009. THEY MUST BE WORLD, INTERNATIONAL, EUROPEAN OR ITALIAN PREMIERE.

The selected films could be included in the following sections:

LONG FEATURE DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION
Film length must be equal or superior than 40 minutes.
An international Jury composed of leading figures in Cinema or Culture will assign the following awards:
– Best Documentary: € 10,000.00 (equally divided between the director and the production).
– Best Directing: € 5,000.00.
– Best Anthropological Film: “Gian Paolo Paoli” plate.
Special Mentions may also be granted.

SHORT DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION
Film length must be shorter than 40 minutes.
The International Jury will assign the following awards:
– Best Short Documentary: € 2.500 (to be equally divided between the director and the production).
Special Mentions may also be granted.

FREE STYLE
This section is devoted to the investigation of the language of documentaries in its broadest sense (video-art, installations, fictions documentary style).

PANORAMA ITALIANO
In occasion of its 51st edition the Festival dei Popoli will present: “PANORAMA ITALIANO”, a non-competitive section aiming to promote the most recent documentary cinema “Made in Italy”.
Short and Long Features documentaries, both premiere and non-premiere, can be considered for this selection. If not a premiere, the documentary should have had the first screening not before the 1st of October 2009. online
