Laura Poitras is working on a trilogy of films about America post 9/11. The first film, MY COUNTRY, MY COUNTRY, was nominated for an Academy Award, Independent Spirit Award, and Emmy Award. The second film, THE OATH, received a Gotham Award for Best Documentary, the Cinematography Award at Sundance, and the Directing Award at Cinema Eye Honors. She is currently working on the third part of the trilogy. Poitras has been detained and interrogated at U.S. borders since 2006.

The 9/11 Trilogy was selected for the 2012 Whitney Biennial.

She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, United States Artists Rockefeller Fellowship, and a Media Arts Fellowship from the Tribeca Film Institute. She has attended the Sundance Institute’s Documentary Story Lab as both a Fellow and creative advisor.

Her work has received support from the Independent Television Service, P.O.V./American Documentary, Sundance Documentary Film Program, Creative Capital, Vital Projects Fund, Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund, NYSCA, Jerome Foundation, Chicken and Egg Pictures, AWAW, and the MacDowell Artist Colony. Before making films she worked as a professional chef.
