Madeleine Bazil

Madeleine Bazil is a multidisciplinary artist and writer from the US, based in South Africa. Her documentary directorial debut, Grandpa Ernest Speaks (2021), had its world premiere at the 2022 Prague International Indie Film Festival, has since screened in festivals worldwide, and has been described as a ‘nuanced poetic representation of an intensely subjective experience’. Her work is shaped by open questions of memory and of place—and how these questions shape identities and relationships.
