The crew at UNDO has had a busy year full of new challenges, new energy and some extremely exciting evolutions. We are grateful to be finding our stride in our first year in Ridgewood, Queens and to have welcomed so many of you there to events, workshops, labs and the remodeled residency. As a leading institution solely dedicated to innovative and artful documentary across discipline, UnionDocs provides a rich and vibrant space where storytelling, visual experimentation, journalism, politics, activism and poetry intersect.
This is urgent work in our contemporary moment; we need not only to parse and communicate the important issues of our time more effectively than ever before, we also need to create new documentary languages that push audiences beyond comfortable worldviews, offer alternate angles of communication about inequality, and create aesthetic and emotional points of reference that can strengthen community, bring hope and generate empathy.
We believe that documentary art, when paired with thoughtful context and open debate, is an invaluable tool for understanding the complexities of contemporary life and creating a more compassionate, engaged, and integrated society.
All contributions support the activities and sustainability of our nonprofit organization.

Support the 2024 Scholarship Fund
Each year UnionDocs is proud to provide scholarships of over $50,000 in financial support. These scholarships offer those who would otherwise not be able to attend our labs and workshops, access to professional development opportunities as well as a chance to find inspiration, gain knowledge and build new relationships with a wider documentary community in NYC and abroad.
The scholarship fund removes financial barriers for these growth opportunities and that’s why we are asking for you to contribute. With your donation, we can continue and hopefully increase our support for artists through this vital program.
Most participants in labs & workshops are emerging or mid-career artists and media professionals who crave these chances to connect and advance their practice and have found these programs invaluable for their personal artistic growth. We’ve seen alums of these programs go on to launch production companies, direct film nonprofits, find jobs in NYC’s independent production industry, gain acceptance to prestigious PhD programs, receive important grants and residencies, build loyal followings as practitioners, and take independent shorts and feature-length films to top tier film festivals and venues including Rotterdam Film Festival, True/False, Third Coast Audio Festival, New York Film Festival, Tribeca, HotDocs, MoMA Doc Fortnight, and many more.
