The 2019 Signal to Noise Award application is now open!
The Signal to Noise Award provides an opportunity for an audio project to come to life by awarding one applicant a production grant to pursue their project or series. The award celebrates creative work that synthesizes audio documentary and experimental sound design.
The award includes: $5000 for production, plus production consultation and technical support from Gilded Audio Design, editorial consultation from the staff of UnionDocs and a celebratory event at the UnionDocs space in Brooklyn. The winner will also receive a free Hindenburg Journalist PRO license, and all applicants will receive a 6-month Hindenburg trial, plus a discount code towards the full license.
Application Requirements: The proposed project must use creative or experimental sound design to help support the message of the project. All projects must have a “documentary” element (fiction or hybrid projects will be considered as long as some aspect can be considered non-fiction).
All styles of audio production will be considered: radio, podcast, installations, theatre, exhibitions, hybrids, etc.
To apply, please submit a form here.
All who are considering are strongly encouraged to apply.
Deadline: August 9, 2019
I’m incredibly grateful for the ways that the Signal to Noise Award has enabled my creative practice and my ability to reconnect with my own culture and history. The work I have begun to make thanks to this award is the kind of deep, longterm work that will sustain me through the next stage in my career. I’ve been recognized as an artist who makes radio, as someone who can expand the boundaries of audio storytelling. I feel constantly inspired and filled with so much hope for the ways the audio industry to evolve to include an even greater spectrum of perspectives and ways of making.
