AFI believes that when armed with best practices that advance social and political change, filmmakers are able to truly shift the narrative and create measurable impact in our shared society. While the very institutions that grant us liberty are being challenged, there has never been a better time to learn from world-class advocates and campaign-tested change makers at the AFI DOCS Impact Lab in Washington, D.C.
The 4th Annual AFI DOCS Impact Lab, produced by AFI DOCS and Raben_Impact, is a competitive fellowship that kicks off with a three-day training program in the lead up to AFI DOCS. Designed for filmmakers with issue-driven films who aim to create broader social and political change through the power of story and film, the Lab provides fellows with unique training opportunities in the areas of advocacy, grassroots communications, and grasstops engagement. In addition to exclusive training with some of the most sought-after tacticians in the social impact and political space, Lab fellows are connected with policymakers and Congressional aides working on legislation relevant to their films.
On the third day of the Impact Lab, fellows are given access to some of the industry’s most impactful funders, and will have an opportunity to pitch their film’s impact campaign. The Impact Lab is just the beginning of a year-long conversation with proven changemakers who will help you ensure your film meets the impact goals you define during the Lab.
To be considered for the 2018 AFI DOCS Impact Lab, please submit your application here. The deadline to apply is March 2 at 11:59pm PT. A total of five films will be accepted into this year’s Impact Lab, with a total of 10 fellows — a mix of filmmakers, campaign directors, and impact producers — representing feature-length, virtual reality, and short films.
