Queens Landing Boathouse and Environmental Center and
Hunter’s Point South Kayak LaunchPlease join us on December 2nd for a special presentation of Wetland Shadows, a public art project exploring the history of Hunter’s Point, Queens. Wetland Shadows tells the tumultuous story of the New York waterfront in microcosm. Artists Nathan Kensinger and Nate Dorr have been documenting the neighborhood’s coastline for the past fifteen years, and now present two new site-specific video installations at the Queens Landing Boathouse and Environmental Center and Hunter’s Point South Kayak Launch. Wetland Shadows spans hundreds of years, from the original marshlands of the Newtown Creek to the newly constructed wetlands of Hunter’s Point South Park, and layers the unseen past of industrialization, wild forests, artist interventions, and real estate development onto the coastline’s new seawalls, towers, and promontories. This video installation is created in partnership with the Hunters Point Parks Conservancy, and Wetland Shadows is supported by a New York State Council For the Arts Grant, and by UnionDocs, a Queens-based documentary arts organization.
