Shadow Play Party!
Proceeds benefit the fellows of the UnionDocs Collaborative Studio
Calling all woodchuck, whistle-pig, and land-beaver enthusiasts! It’s the first weekend in February and you know what that means – it’s the night before Groundhog day and we all eagerly await our atmospheric fates.
Eschew those Super Bowl plans and come celebrate the largest species in the squirrel family with us over delicious (and cheap!) home-made drinks, bumping tunes, and good company. Prance around in the shadows if you’re coveting six more weeks of winter, or bust a move out in the light if you’re like the rest of us! You have one last night of blissful ignorance before Punxsutawney Phil declares our seasonal trajectory – might as well spend it right! Bill Murray/Phil Connors rumored to be in attendance.
Backyard will be open, drinks and dancing all night long! Featuring a set from the amazing DJ Lady Lane an interdisciplinary sound, scent and video artist, producer and performer and Sohme (Saumon Oboudiyat), producer, DJ, multi-instrumentalist and architectural designer.
Proceeds from the evening will go to supporting the artists and filmmakers in the UnionDocs Collaborative Studio. Everyone’s invited – bring your friends!
The way DJ Lady Lane (aka Rena Anakwe) spins music might be a fairly accurate reflection of her background and identity: soulful, upbeat, and eclectic. Her diverse and multicultural background is definitely portrayed through her mixing [excerpt from Schema Mag].
DJ Lady Lane is an interdisciplinary sound, scent and video artist, producer and performer. She is based in Brooklyn, New York by way of Nigeria and Canada.
She has collaborated, produced and shown audio/visual work at: Lincoln Center, BAMCafé, MoMA PS1, Montez Press Radio, CultureHub NYC, Mass MoCA (MA), the Museum of the Moving Image, Europe’ s Capital of Culture in Turku, Finland; and played out internationally in: NYC, Berlin, LA, Vancouver (BC), Brazil, Los Cabos (MX) and Turku (FI.).
Sohme is the creative outlet for producer, DJ, multi-instrumentalist and architectural designer Saumon Oboudiyat. Sohme’s production and DJ work explores territories of rhythmic collections and probing into the broad catalogs of electronic music to promote uplifting all people through dance.
Sohme’s first body of work ‘Ten Abstracts’ is a collection of rhythms produced in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, which focuses on the digital tools of looping, sampling of gospel music and testing of atypical song structures. This along with his two latest releases include singles ‘Roses on Bowery’ and ‘Bedford’ are available for streaming via SoundCloud.
He also serves as co-creator of the latest event-based project called ‘FormOver’ – a pop-up dance party event native to Brooklyn, NY which converts intimate interior and exterior spaces in the city into single-event dance parties with curated visual projections.
