Artist Jessica Sarah Rinland teaching two incredible classes at Harvard Summer School, register by June 17!

Artist and filmmaker Jessica Sarah Rinland is teaching two compelling classes at Harvard Summer School!

Book Making – This course focuses on the making of an artists’ book and the ongoing possibilities within this form. Working with the Fine Arts Library and Straus Center for Conservation, students are introduced to diverse artist’s book-making techniques and conceptual approaches. The course covers digital imaging techniques including Photoshop and InDesign, digital printing and scanning, and physical bookmaking, while focusing closely on students’ projects with regular work-in-progress presentations and crit presentations. Students work individually and in groups to develop skills in media literacy and communication.

Analyzing Documentary Film – This course familiarizes students with the breadth of genres within documentary film. Dating back to Robert Flaherty’s 1922 Nanook of the North, the course traces social, observational, hybrid, archive, essay, and music documentaries including those by Fredrick Wiseman, Sara Gómez, Werner Herzog, Chris Marker, and Laura Poitras. We analyze the aesthetic and formal elements of these films as well as the ethics of how they were made and distributed.

Register by June 17!

We’re also going to have Jessica over at UNDO for a workshop soon, stay tuned!
