Las Traviesas de Aribada
With Galle of Cineclub Amora. In Ridgewood in the open air Screening Garage, we invite you to join us for a screening & conversation around Las Traviesas de Aribada.
We’re delighted to join hands with Cineclub Amora to celebrate 𝘼𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙖𝙙𝙖, the resurrected monster who decides to join 𝙇𝙖𝙨 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙨𝙖𝙨 (the mischievous) group of Embera indigenous trans women from so-called Colombia.
We’re delighted to host Galle who guides Cineclub Amora, a rebellious-loving fem space for conversation and joy, that uses moving images as a resource for learning and building liberating sensithinking, from the T4T and Woman4Woman perspective to dismantle the world of the macho.
We’ll screen the scintillating Aribada, that has traveled to festivals around the world from the regional patria screenings in Colombia to Cannes’ DocFortnight, Oberhausen and beyond! Las Traviesas share knowledge and reinvent rituals in this telling of their story where documentary and fiction merge into a transcultural narrative. After the screening we’ll engage with a collection of archival materials that will bring us into these narratives more deeply led by Galle through the CineClub’s somatic approach.
Mil Mundos, a sponsor of the Cine Club will be on site, selling some books, and we’ll have good vibes going before and after for community connections. Come on out to keep Pride energy going, above and beyond June!
This is a free community event with a suggested donation of $5. Grab a Suggested Donation ticket!
Aribada by Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau & Natalia Escobar
“That is why the short film Aribada, directed and produced by Simon (e) Jaikiriuma Paetau and Natalia Escobar, caught my attention so much. This short film, whose story takes place between a fantasy world and a real one, tells the story of the coexistence of trans women from an Embera community in the Eje Cafetero, expelled from their indigenous land because of being trans. The short film begins in a thick jungle with the fog between the mountains of Santuario, Risaralda, and thus, between a dreamlike or shamanic world, the vicissitudes of a daily life full of memory are presented. Trans women, indigenous women, what could be more transgressive than these two elements together?” — Catalina Ceballos
In the middle of the Colombian coffee region, Aribada, the resurrected monster, meets Las Traviesas, a group of indigenous transwomen from the Emberá tribes. Enchanted by the beauty and power of their spirits, Aribada decides to join Las Traviesas in creating their own trans*futurist community.
