Sarah Ema Friedland’s installation exploring family, motherhood, and identity to open at Gallery MC on October 6!

We’re delighted to support the opening of Sarah Ema Friedland’s installation, “Your umbilical cord is cut twice, once when you are born and once when your mother dies.”, at Gallery MC on October 6 at 6PM! The exhibition will be open October 2 through 18.

Sarah Ema Friedland, an award winning documentary filmmaker and MacDowell Colony Fellow, presents the inaugural exhibit of an electrifying neon light and sound installation, titled “Your umbilical cord is cut twice, once when you are born and once when your mother dies.” This affecting work explores the nuanced tapestry of motherhood, fertility challenges, adoption, abuse, love, and mortality, as seen through the lens of a multi-cultural family.

The project was supported by a New York State Council on the Arts Individual Artist Grant nominated by Union Docs. LEARN MORE.
