In this edition of Doclisboa’s Filmmaking Seminar, UnionDocs Center for Documentary Art (UNDO) is back as a partner co-designing the four day engagement, bringing a special opportunity for participants to engage deeply with an exciting collection of work and have productive, structured conversations about the ideas and provocations that this work inspires.

There will be 8 invited guests, four artists and four writers, all recently selected for the prestigious UNDO Fellowship, which has a mission to expand radical filmmaking practices and research new languages of documentary cinema.

Together, we propose to explore radical filmmaking practices through collectively built research and discussion. The Seminar comprises four sessions pulling from the fellows’ research questions and body’s of work also featured in this year’s festival program. Join us for this creative and social format and help us build a lively conversation in Lisboa!

Seminar Overview

During the seminar, which will run October 17th through 20th, participants will receive tickets to four festival screenings to watch films with the public. They will also be invited to the presentation of research topics presented by the UNDO fellows, and have dedicated space to gather separately each day to deconstruct preconceptions and find useful ways to approach the relevant questions and meaningful insights that these films and topics have to offer through a series of intimate small discussions that form a larger collective experience.

Participants in the seminar will be encouraged to share thaeir ideas, combine knowledge, raise questions, share epiphanies, and perspectives in breakout groups and collective discussions. A small and temporary community will be formed, bonded around a commitment to think through these questions together and we hope will inspire long-lasting connections too.

As the seminar is only open to 30 people, there is a short and simple application required and a fee of 30 Euros for selected participants. We invite applications from people of all backgrounds who are interested to open their minds, deconstruct their preconceptions and find useful questions and meaningful insights embedded in artists’ cinema and documentary art.

The seminar is conducted in English and is led and produced by Christopher Allen & Jenny Miller of UnionDocs.

Please note that travel and lodging for the festival are not included in the program.
