Kashaka is a music producer, composer, and DJ based in NYC. Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, Kashaka’s love for hip-hop and r&b led him to move New York, where he graduated from the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU. Shortly after Kashaka moved to New York City, he integrated into the incredibly vital underground hip-hop scene, by engineering and co-producing on Phony Ppl’s debut album, Phonyland. Eventually he moved to Ghana, where he fell in love with a whole new rhythm and began incorporating afrobeats, highlife, and west african rhythms and sensibilities into his work. Kashaka is a co-founder and resident DJ of Everyday Afrique, a celebrated party in collaboration with OkayAfrica NYC and Everyday People held at Output that’s been covered by the New York Times, CNN, and more. Currently, Kashaka is producing for rising rap stars like Ski Mask the Slump God, scoring music for shows like Broad City, composing and music supervising for the feature-film Beba, producing music with several underground NY-based artists, and finalizing his first solo EP.
Jake Sokolov-Gonzalez is a cellist, pianist, educator, and DJ from the east village NYC. He has performed at the Vision Festival with William Parker, the Performa Biennial with Marina Rosenfeld, Germany’s Stimmen Festival with Lisa Sokolov, the Stone with Steve Swell, Carnegie Hall with Nyack Chamber Orchestra and at Lincoln Center Out of Doors with Larry Harlow. He DJs and sound sculpts for theater, movement work (Bill T. Jones), and dance halls ranging from Bedstuy basements to lavish bacchanals. Jake’s compositions are wide ranging from unmanned electronics to works for large electro-acoustic ensemble. His repertoire ranges from abstract new music and free improvisation, to electronic dance music and Hip-Hop.
