Pomegranate Press: Common Place
A conversation with Jesse Feinman and Scott Rossi.

UnionDocs is excited to host a night that meditates on the public and private spheres of New York City’s Central Park through the art of documentary photography and the work of photographer, Scott Rossi.
On this occasion, we’re delighted to partner up with Pomegranate Press and bring a conversation hosted with their founder and publisher, Jesse Feinman to discuss a recent publication of Rossi’s work entitled Common Place and how his approach to image making applies to the greater world of narrative-based photography.
In this book, co-published with Guest Editions, the intentions set forth by the park’s chief architect, Frederick L. Olmsted, who wanted Central Park to be a democratic space that allows all New Yorkers to escape the distractions of urban life in Manhattan are explored across a wide-ranging collection of photographs.
The project intends to show how people — whether alone, in a couple, or group — utilize public space. Common Place explores the inevitable intersection of the public and private spheres while highlighting the importance of Central Park and how New Yorkers, whether using the expansive landscape to relax, escape or love, continue to find what they need within it. Unlike many modern-day experiences, to enjoy Central Park, no ticket or pass is necessary — it is enough to walk through the gates and give yourself to its embrace.
Rossi will present his work, before we hear a bit from Feinman about the process of putting the book together.
Come through to discuss the power of framing and producing a photographic image, how one builds narratives and intentions across a body of work and the ideas at the center of this collaborative publication.
