The Meerkat Media Collective is looking for NYC-based artists with projects to join their creative community for a one year residency beginning May 2017.
“Meerkats in Residence” are a dedicated group of artists that are actively working on projects (individually or collaboratively) and are supported by the collective resources, based in Meerkats’ work space in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Residents provide mutual aid for one another’s projects and artistic development, receive a monetary stipend, have access to production and post-production equipment, attend an annual creative retreat and contribute to the ongoing video series ‘Newsreels from the Resistance.’
This is a self-directed residency program in which the residents also bear primary responsibility for decision-making and the work of operating the Collective. The world we live in has been framed by and continues to operate through systems of oppression and privilege and the collective is committed to combating institutionalized biases that exist in the industry and beyond.
